WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
QUICK START
1. Read a best-selling memoir from the suggested list before class begins
2. Come to first class prepared to share what stood out for you in the memoir you read.
3. Complete writing exercises in class and decide on the narrow topic for your pandemic story.
HOMEWORK:
Write and title your two-page story (about 1,000 words) focusing on an aspect of your pandemic experience that matters to you.
FILL IN THE GAPS
1. Bring your Word document rough draft to class.
2. Read your story aloud to your small group, and share positive feedback with each other.
3. In the large group, we'll discuss the ways to enhance your writing and prepare manuscript for the editor.
HOMEWORK:
Make suggested changes using the font and format required. Write your 100-word bio and your photo.
PRO TIPS
1. Learn to respond to editor using tracked changes in your Word document.
2. Sharpen your hook, tighten your story, and fill in any missing pieces.
3. Review and approve your 100-word bio and photo to appear in the book.
HOMEWORK:
Complete any manuscript changes and email to Editorial Team within two days.
MAKE FINAL TOUCHES
1. Read your finished story to your small group.
2. Review the anthology layout and submission process.
3. Discuss any questions or concerns.
4. Plan virtual launch event.
5. Check your email daily in case we need to reach you regarding your manuscript.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Dr. Flora Brown is a Certified Guided Autobiography Facilitator and Trainer and part of the Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies. She received a B.A. in English, a Masters in Education and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Southern California.
Drawing from 40 years of teaching junior high through university levels, as well as writing 13 books, she shares her love of stories and belief in their power to enrich lives through writing, sharing and preserving life stories and life experiences.
She is the mom of four, grandma of three, and great grandma of six, on last count.
She retired from the Humanities Division of Fullerton College as Professor Emeritus.
